Test Where You Train
Most CDL schools train you and then hand you off. You drive to a DPS office or a separate examiner, climb into a truck you may have never sat in, and perform for someone who has never seen you drive. It is the single biggest source of first-attempt failures we hear about from students who tried other schools first.
ACE does it differently because Texas licenses us to. As a Licensed Third-Party Tester for both the permit and the license, we administer the tests ourselves, on our own campus in Mansfield. You test in the yard where you practiced backing every day, on roads you drove all program, in the same tractor-trailer you trained in.
What You Can Test For Here
- CDL permit knowledge tests. General Knowledge, Combination Vehicles, and Air Brakes for Class A. Take them on campus as soon as your instructors say you are ready, with no separate appointment to start your 14-day permit clock.
- The Class A skills test. All three parts: vehicle inspection, basic control skills, and the road test. Read what happens in each part.
- Manual or automatic. We test in both, so you decide whether your license carries the E restriction. See manual vs. automatic.
Every ACE program includes the testing. There is no testing fee added at the end and no range rental surprise.
Why It Matters for Your Pass Rate
Nerves are the enemy on test day, and unfamiliarity feeds nerves. When the truck, the cones, the roads, and the faces are all familiar, the only new thing is the score sheet. That is a large part of why 97 percent of ACE students pass on the first attempt.
It also matters for your timeline. Schools that depend on outside examiners wait on someone else's calendar. At ACE the day you are ready is the day you test, which is how most of our day students go from first day to licensed driver in about three to four weeks.
Getting to the Campus
ACE is at 950 Trinity Drive, Mansfield, TX 76063, in south Tarrant County. Mansfield sits where Arlington, Grand Prairie, south Fort Worth, and southwest Dallas meet, which is why so many of our students come from those cities. Most are here in 20 to 40 minutes.
